Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid. Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for children and youth, especially those most exposed to risks, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in more than 30 countries, Tdh works with its own teams and/or local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which significantly improve the daily lives of over four million children and members of their communities every year, with a focus on mother and child health, migration and access to justice for children.

Tdh India

Terre des hommes (Tdh) has been present in India since 2008. From 2016 until 2022, we have reached 494,000 children, their families, and communities in eight states (West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odissa, Assam, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman Islands, Kashmir) of India. Our office is in Kolkata, West Bengal.

In India, we provide technical support to government structures and civil society organisations to make sustainable improvements to the living conditions and development of the most vulnerable children and promote children’s rights.

Tdh’s current operational states are West Bengal and Jharkhand. The international borders between West Bengal and Nepal are a well-known trafficking route, while the state of West Bengal has the highest rate of child brides in the country and is one of the most vulnerable states to climate change disasters. Jharkhand is amongst the worst-performing states when it comes to infant and maternal mortality and unsafe migration.

We received training on WASH assessment checklist (WASH FIT), we conducted assessment of WASH facilities in our hospital, and prepared WASH improvement plan with support from Tdh and SSDC. Jointly we prioritize the WASH infrastructure improvement and supported in best possible way.
